I discovered Maurice Walsh because of the John Wayne/ Maureen O'Hara movie "The Quiet Man", my all-time favorite. A few months ago, I ordered the short story collection, and have since read:

The Key Above the Door (1926)
While Rivers Run (1928)
The Small Dark Man (1929)
The Road to Nowhere (1934)

I am hooked on Walsh's writing style, his use of the Irish vernacular and his gift for turn of phrase. I think that one day I should like to visit Ireland and try my hand at a trout or salmon, and I'll imagine that Hugh Forbes and Paddy Joe Long are with me, and both of them honest men.
